“While will driving 70 MPH on I-96, left front strut/coil/dampener failed , the coil spring became partially offset and separated laterally from the remaining portion of the coil. The portion of the coil offset began rubbing on the front tire sidewall. Fortunately, I was located 5-7 miles from home and my local vehicle repair shop. A dangerous and potentially very dangerous development. See attached images..”

NHTSA complaint #11088685, filed 2018-04, 148,000 miles

“Abs and stability control became inoperative at around 50mph. It's a 55mph road thats heavily trafficked since its near a port. I had to stop the car on the side of the road since we almost crashed into an 18 wheeler. Fortunately we were close to home I drove the car at a reasonable speed just to get home. After that incident we have stopped using this vehicle since it gets even more dangerous every time, especially when it rains. Since then brake light has come on and hydraulic and suspension has been bad. This happened last year when pandemic was still full force and without a vehicle. …”

“January 10,2017 had car towed to dealership. Right rear coil spring broken into 3 pieces. Left rear cracked. Both replace under extended warranty w/$100.00 deduct. Car had 77,695 miles. March 13, 2017 car towed due to left front coil spring broken covered under extended warranty w/$100. Deduct. I had them replace the right coil spring and they found mounting bracket broken along with bearing. This was not covered under extended warranty, costing me $532.01. My complaint is why would the springs break like that? I have owned many cars over the years and I am not rough on them. …”

NHTSA complaint #10966581, filed 2017-03

“My 2010 vw tdi sportwagon eats up the inside of the tires, very quickly. I just purchased my fifth set of tires for a car with less than 70,000 miles on it. I've had the alignment checked three times, and it continually shows to be within specs. The first two times, I had a vw dealership check the alignment, and both times they told me there was nothing they could do. I just had a private mechanic check the alignment, and he said I couldn't have a more perfect alignment, according to vw's specs. …”
