“Vehicle has hands free liftgate operation by waving feet under bumper. The liftgate will also close if you are loading cargo toward front of compartment and your feet inadvertently trigger sensor. The closing tone is weak and cannot be heard if there is any outside noise. Liftgate has closed on my back at least 4 times and my wife at least 3 times in the 4 weeks we have had the vehicle. If a small child were to be climbing in the back with the hatch open they could be seriously injured or even killed by the closing hatch. …”
NHTSA complaint #11591160, filed 2024-05“The liftgate has a sensor so that you can place you foot under the vehicle to open or close the liftgate. The sensor is too sensitive and even if do not put your foot under the vehicle the liftgate closes on your head or shoulder when you are putting things in or out of the rear area. The liftgate caused a bruise. We took the vehicle in for repair and they said the sensors were fine.the is very dangerous and can cause serve injuries.”
