Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“During annual state inspection, mechanic found a large area of corrosion, approximately 16 x 8 inch in floor pan above the catalytic converter. This area has a quarter size hole at the center of it, extending into the interior below the rear seat, which could allow exhaust fumes to enter the passenger compartment. The lack of a heat shield, which according to the dealer's parts department, did not exist for this model caused the undercoating to melt and exposed the metal for corrosion.”

NHTSA complaint #713008, filed 1999-10
