“'scraping' noise in front end when turning. Unable to find cause, southview chevrolet said it was 'normal' in all jeeps. After searching the web, I found a discussion page for jeeps. After much research, I was told the fluid in the front axle was not full. I went to another Jeep dealers, explained the problem and showed them the report. It was resolved and there were no futher issues with the axle. Southview chev. Is now defunct after the owner cheated clients out of millions of dollars. Several more issues with my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland are to follow...”

NHTSA complaint #10466933, filed 2012-07, 3,401 miles

“The wheels on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 17 chrome plated aluminum. Oem wheels are corroding. This corrosion is seen on the exterior of the wheel and when I was having problems with them holding air I took it to sears to have the problem corrected. When the tire was removed from the wheel itself, the tech called me over and showed me that the wheel is corroding along the entire surface where it meets with the tire. It appears that the chrome plating was and had peeled off allowing the corrosion to start and the air to leak. …”

“This is my 4th Jeep. Here is a little background on this issue. I purchased a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the overland edition. The dealership pushed buying a used certified Jeep vehicle! They mentioned the extended warranty that would take care of any issues that the Jeep had during the last years of my ownership. I went in the dealership looking to purchase a new vehicle but they told me all the added benefits / value from buying from the used Jeep facility! The warranty: as mentioned I purchased the warranty sold by Jeep at the local dealership. …”

NHTSA complaint #10140626, filed 2005-10, 25,000 miles

“Dt: the chrome rims that were an option on the vehicle, on the inside metal corroded and peeled off. Already talked to the dealer, and the manufacturer noticed this . Just this week. The tires are goodyear, wranglers. The tires now are michelin tires which were changed at 50,000 miles. The wheel or rim hubs had to be broken off because they were rusted out due to corrosion.”

NHTSA complaint #10120539, filed 2005-06, 92,000 miles

“Factory 17 rouge chrome plated wheels have hairline cracks in the chrome between the spokes. Do not know if safe to drive because this cracking of the chrome may be stress cracks in the aluminum wheel. The car a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee only has 9,000 miles on it. Jeep dealer says the cracking chrome/wheel is not under warranty but stops short of telling me why it happened and if it is a safety problem.”
