“With just under 40,000 miles on the vehicle, first the front passenger seat belt started to fail to retract, then a few months later the front driver side seat belt began to do the same thing. The dealer says they are out of warranty so it's my dime to fix. I wouldn't be concerned except that this is a huge safety issue, if the belt doesn't retract correctly when put on, it would fail to hold me or my passenger in place during an accident.”

NHTSA complaint #11542715, filed 2023-09

“A few days after purchasing this car we noticed the front seatbelts weren’t retracting after unbuckling. After pulling out the seatbelt shoulder strap and inspecting it, it was cut and frayed, which was catching and not allowing it to retract. The front driver and passenger shoulder belts were both like this. We took the vehicle into a jeep dealer and had it checked out and had the seatbelts replaced for obvious safety reasons. The gentleman who worked on our Jeep said he had seen this on other Chrysler models as well.”

NHTSA complaint #11496630, filed 2022-12

“The front seatbelt latch on my 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not latch or secure properly. The buckle fails to engage when inserted, leaving the seatbelt unusable. This creates a serious safety hazard because the occupant cannot be restrained while the vehicle is in motion. The issue occurs every time the seatbelt is used and has not resolved on its own.”

NHTSA complaint #11731675, filed 2026-04

“The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the driver's side and the passenger’s side front seat belts were no longer retracting. The contact stated that the seat belts often got caught in the door while exiting the vehicle. The contact had been working with a dealer for two years to have the seat belts replaced. The contact stated that the dealer had finally replaced the driver’s and passenger’s side front seat belts. …”

NHTSA complaint #11657899, filed 2025-04, 74,000 miles

“ALL 5 seatbelt retractors have gone out at the same time estimated $2000, the dealership put in a claim to Crysler Customer Care that stated they would cover 40% and I would have the remaining 60% since the vehicle has 53,000 miles and is out of warranty. Although, even IF it were still in warranty that part IS NOT covered. This is a safety issue and the manufacture should be responsible.”
