“I own a used 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo 4x4. The driver's and passenger's side seat belts are not latching unless I press down on the red button. The red seat belt indicator light won't go off and the audible chimes continuously and will not shut off while driving. The vehicle manual does describe a method in which you can disable the seatbelt indicator chime. However, to be able to do this you must be able to have the seatbelt in the buckled position, which the vehicle is not able to detect as the seatbelts are faulty. …”
NHTSA complaint #11363520, filed 2020-10, 156,000 miles“During rain storms both driver and passenger sides are flooded with water. This has ruined carpet in vehicle and will probably rust the bottom of the car. - vehicle stationery in driveway of home. The safety belts both driver and passenger sides are not working - do not secure unless you push down hard to engage the belt into lock mode. I do not feel safe when I have to manually engage the belt hook into the lock. I had an accident and crashed into a fence, the airbag did not deploy. Vehicle in motion at time. …”
NHTSA complaint #11265244, filed 2019-09, 1 miles“Both front seatbelts stopping allowing the buckle to be latched with inserting the latch unless I depress the release button. After a few months the passenger seat belt light began illuminating and chiming but the buckle was latched. If I moved the latch within the buckle at a certain angle it would stop but I'd have to hold it there causing a safety issue while driving or have the passenger do this task. When I am stopped the chiming stops but the light stay on. The chiming restarts once the vehicle is in motion. …”
NHTSA complaint #10883743, filed 2016-07, 110,000 miles“I bought this Jeep in march on 2012 , then few months after buying it the drivers seat belt stopped latching unless I depressed it to make it latch then a month or so later the passengers seat belt started doing the same thing. But since then the seat belt chime started going off and the seat belt light on the dash started staying on too. At first you could unbuckle the passengers seat belt and rebuckle and it would stop but now if someone is in the passengers seat it doesn't stop. …”
NHTSA complaint #10524639, filed 2013-07, 88,000 miles“Less then 30 days ago I purchased a used 2006 Jeep cherokee laredo 4x2. The dealer said the airbag sensor just needed replaced no big deal. Now I am experiencing the same thing as alot of older people. The driver's side seat belt started not latching unless I press down on the red button. So then the red seat belt indicator light won't go off and the audible chimes continuously and will not shut off while driving no matter what I do. Moving the seat belt around to try and get the chime to stop as well as the audible chiming while driving makes it very annoying and distracting from the road. …”
