“The driver door latch sensor went bad. It keeps saying that the door is ajar. When it is not. This is a real safety issue. For example, what if I don't close my door completely, I would expect this warning to come on. But right now the door warning is always on. So I really don't know if my door is properly closed or not. So far I am slamming my door shut to ensure that it is properly closed.”

NHTSA complaint #10682750, filed 2015-02, 39,500 miles

“The door latch sensor switch was having intermittent issues and at times was showing an alarm that the door was not closed even though it was. When this happens, the door locks would de-energize and unlock even though the car was moving. This problem would also cause the exterior & interior lights to stay on when the key was turned off draining the battery. This is a safety issue and should be recalled by Ford.”

NHTSA complaint #10678802, filed 2015-01, 41,000 miles

“Driver door latch assembly failure results in a driver door ajar warning. Door is latched at least enough to stay shut, however, the warning stays on. As a result, the auto door lock at 10mph does not happen. If you use the door lock push button, the doors lock and then immediately unlock. The only way to lock them is to push down each on the door buttons. Small children or babies in the back seat can't and the driver can't reach all the doors. Not a good situation. Also, every time you stop, for instance at a light, another warning to put the car in park occurs when you release the brakes. …”

NHTSA complaint #10695222, filed 2015-03, 69,000 miles

“This is my 20 year old daughter's car. She attends college in another state. Recently, the door ajar light comes on and will not go off. This prevents her from locking her doors, all of them! Not while driving, and not when parked. The closes all doors and tries to lock the car, and the passenger side door ajar light remains on, even though the door is closed and shut tight. The repair to this issue is replacing the entire door latch mechanism and costs over $500 at the dealer. I would do it myself, but the Ford door assembly is very complicated and must be done in a precise manner. …”

NHTSA complaint #11421225, filed 2021-06

“A fault in the door latch on the drivers side is malfunctioning and sends a signal that the door is open when it is not. Besides being annoying, I fear the fact that the doors do not lock while the vehicle is in motion. They could be locked manually, but I have two small children that can not lock them on their own. I fear that if we were in an accident, they could be thrown from the car due to not having the doors locked. At this point I do not even want to drive my children anywhere in this vehicle. It is a safety issue!”
