“I have had two door latches fail in the same vehicle within 2 years of each other. No matter whether the vehicle is moving or stationary, I got a warning stating the right rear (and now the right front) door was not closed when in fact it was. There is a faulty sensor in the door latches. This also prevents the child locks from engaging since it thinks the doors are open.”

“I bought a new 13 Ford FLEX , that only my wife drives. A few months ago the door ajar warning kept going off when the door is closed. I just bought a $130 battery cause this drained the battery, I cant lock the car, and the alarm goes off all day. Ford says its a bad latch cost is $515.40!! For a door not ever used”

NHTSA complaint #10779112, filed 2015-10, 40,000 miles

“Our Ford FLEX says the right rear door is open even when it is closed. Because of this the doors are not automatically locked while driving. We try and remember to lock the doors manually but on occasion it can be overlooked. On one of those occasions we were driving on a city street when my 3 year old son who was in the back seat grabbed the door handle causing the door to fly open while we were driving almost causing an accident.”

NHTSA complaint #10874964, filed 2016-06, 58,000 miles

“My passenger door light comes on when the door closed. Causing my interior lights to stay on & keeps my doors from locking. This happens at different times at first it was when I first start the car now its coming on when driving down the road. Now we are questioning the safety of my passanger when I'm driving down the road. This is also a issue when we get out of the car since it causes my interior lights to stay on unnecessarily for a length of time.”
