“When filling the fuel tank to full gasoline will shoot out of the filler hole and over the side of the vehicle. The problem is consistent (I can only recall 4 times when it did not occur since I purchased the vehicle in 2015 with 82,000 miles on it. In all cases the vehicle was stationary, engine was off, parked next to the gasoline pump.”
NHTSA complaint #11039712, filed 2017-10, 123,900 miles“Every time I fill the tank fully, since new, this vehicle has overfilled and spilled approximately 0.3 gallons of fuel. I have two friends with 05-06 Jeep wranglers with the same fuel filler neck, both have the same problem. Chrysler is unwilling to repair at a reasonable cost, but it is a design flaw that is dangerous to the owner of the vehicle and the environment.”
NHTSA complaint #10689636, filed 2015-02, 200 miles“When filling the fuel tank it always overflows. It does not matter the station or how the pump is in the tank. It always shoots gas out before it kicks off. I think this is a serious fire hazard and I also can spray fuel on the person filling. It sounds like this is an ongoing issue with this model and nothing has been done???”
NHTSA complaint #10715486, filed 2015-05, 98,000 miles“When filling up the gas tank with fuel, the fuel splashes out going over me, my fenders, side of Jeep and the ground. I believe this is a major safety issue.and Jeep should be liable. God forbid if this caused a fatality.”
NHTSA complaint #11399449, filed 2021-03, 75,000 miles“I bought my 2006 Jeep Wrangler rubicon new from a dealership. After few years I started having issues with fuel spitting out of the gas filler when filling up at a gas station. About 1/4 to 1/2 cup at a time. Doesn't matter which staion or which pump I use. The pump I use would click off,but always a second too late. …”
