Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“My Jeep was traveling at 55 MPH on a state road when it lost power and had to be steared/coast to the side of the road. Had we been on an interstate this would have caused an accident, injury or death. The dealer claims nothing is wrong with the car and ready to release it to me today 3/29/16 to continue driving as a safe vehicle. …”

NHTSA complaint #10852202, filed 2016-03, 30,000 miles

“I was traveling on route 18 a 55 MPH road yesterday and hit some ice or center rumble strips in the road. My car went into a large ditch. The front end of my car is severely damaged. The driver side airbag did not deploy. I find this very disturbing. Definitely a safety issue!!”

NHTSA complaint #11289860, filed 2019-12, 106,000 miles

“I was driving 50 mpg on highway 1 to alaska through canada, and my side airbags deployed without any reason, and my belts blocked. I contacted chrysler and after 10 days they told me that my car was in 52 degrees angle at the moment of deployment and they are not responsible for it. There is even a little scratch on my car and I was driving straight when it happen.”

NHTSA complaint #10584613, filed 2014-04, 4,845 miles

“I was in an accident severe enough to total the vehicle but none of the many air bags deployed. I rear ended a vehicle on the freeway. I was just concerned since I am unaware what speed I was going at the point of impact. The front of my vehicle was pushed back toward the windsheild pretty far. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures. I just wanted to express my concerns. We did test the car and there aparently no failure of the air bag system, so maybe no problem.”

NHTSA complaint #11302083, filed 2020-01, 60,750 miles

“While driving straight , around 4pm on dry pavement, with a vaild drivers license, at 25 MPH on a residential street with a 40 ft right of way, my cars suspension/ a frame broke into pieces, cause me to crash into a parked range rover. My front passenger wheel just about cane off. Further inspection of the crash reveled that the steering knuckle/lower control arm had broken into pieces. Air bags did not deploy.”
