“2016 Jeep Cherokee sport with only 11850 miles began jerking and stalling while driving slowly... Finally it stalled completely and the low oil indicator showed. I then discovered the 2.4l tigershark engine was down over 2 qts. There was no prior low oil indication. I immediately changed the oil and filter for the third time since 2016 when new. The vehicle stopped on a county road.”

NHTSA complaint #11404072, filed 2021-03, 11,850 miles

“I was driving and the lights on the shift all turn red. I pulled over turned the vehicle off drove again and all the lights turn red again repeated the process and and it turned on again. Called the dealer they never heard of the problem looked it up and said that the shift needs to be inspected but they said it is ok to drive.”

NHTSA complaint #11309339, filed 2020-02, 20,000 miles

“'service shifter' is displayed, meaning I cannot use any of the in vehicle controls or use the manual transmission feature or see what gear I am in. It's an automatic but has the manual option. I've seen hundreds of other people effected by this, needs to be a recall asap or grounds for a class action if no action is taken.”

NHTSA complaint #11328314, filed 2020-06, 70,000 miles

“The shifter light came on on 04/01/2021. It remained on the entire trip home from my school of employment. I noted this is a popular problem with this model. Previously, I had very scary problems with acceleration several times and this is documented in an ongoing suit that has not been resolved.”

NHTSA complaint #11406067, filed 2021-04, 68,000 miles

“We have taken our Jeep in countless times since obtaining it brand new in 2016 for a service shift issue. They replaced our thermostat the first time then wiring harness to the transmission/bcm the second time since then the dealership has stated with out a check engine light not to worry about this issue. Every time it happens our Jeep heats up past 220 degrees and starts to run rough.”
