“I have noticed a strong smell of gas when exiting vehicle after use. A few days later saw gas coming from front tank filler. Checked cap was on properly. Then I noticed than fuel continued to spill regardless of truck running or not. Does not do it every time. Gas disappears from rear tank. I suspect gas is being pumped from rear tank to front tank until it over flows. One family truck, bought new by my son in law I have had it around 3 years. 110,000 actual mileage. Old but low mileage. Serious safety issue. Couldn,t find any recalls past 1999.”
NHTSA complaint #10956425, filed 2017-02, 110,000 miles“1992 f150 xlt lariat 302. Duel tanks. I use the rear tank and not the front one. This weekend my truck is running gas will pour out of the front tank at the gas cap. I took both caps off so there was no pressure build up and it made no difference the gas still poured out the front tank really bad. When you're on the highway it acts like it wants to shut off. Then when you park it gas gushes out the tank and the vapor canister up under the hood I have had the truck for two months, it had a little over 92,000 original miles when I purchase it and now a little over 94,000.. …”
NHTSA complaint #11021458, filed 2017-09, 94,563 miles“I purchased a used vehicle which had a malfunctioning check valve w/in the fuel pump assembly causing fuel to return to the opposite tank and then due to overfill and pressure in tank causing it to come out of fuel cap. This issue was covered under NHTSA campaign id's: 93v125000/01i008000. I brought the vehicle to a dealership and they refused to repair the vehicle saying it was outside of the 12years/150,000mls warrantee date. …”
NHTSA complaint #10104392, filed 2004-12, 100,000 miles“(my Ford F-150 - truck - v.I.n-#1ftex15yonkb68349) the truck was stalling and I had the fuel filter changed on 03/01/04-thinking that it was the problem, but the truck kept turning off. I was putting gasoline in the back tank and then the front tank started overflowing so on 03/11/04 I took the truck back. They checked why this was happening and the mechanic found out that the truck had been on recall for check valves, which I was never notified. …”
NHTSA complaint #10062610, filed 2004-03, 314,003 miles“Fuel from the rear tank of my truck is somehow getting into the front tank. In looking into this I found NHTSA campaign id 01i008000 which describes this exact condition. I contacted Ford at the phone number listed in the NHTSA campaign description and the Ford representative tells me that my truck is not covered by this campaign. When I asked how vehicles get assigned to campaigns she said it is done by NHTSA. Therefore I am filing this complaint to try to get my truck repaired under this campaign.”
