“When I bought the car it drove good. After about 30 mins of driving it the low coolant light came on while sitting at a red light. We took it to the shop and they said it was the coolant sensor so we replaced it. After it was replaced the same situation happened and they said the cylinder head may be cracked. The car hasn't ran out of water.”
NHTSA complaint #11349155, filed 2020-08, 124,560 miles“While driving, coolant warning light came on and about 5 min later car died. I opened hood and there was still coolant in car. Took to dealer. Quoted $10,000 for new engine. I was never notified of a recall re coolant leaking into engine and in subsequent visits dealer never addressed the recall and never fixed problem.”
NHTSA complaint #11390667, filed 2021-01, 81,967 miles“I was driving down the street. My car had no signs of trouble. Suddenly smoke started coming from the heat vents on the dash. I was able to pull into a parking lot and get out of the vehicle. At this time I saw flames coming out from under the hood. I called 911. By the time of arrival of the fire dept the car was fully involved in flames.”
NHTSA complaint #11172771, filed 2019-01, 60,000 miles“Was having a slow coolant leak into the engine. Was told by Ford that it was potentially a cracked cylinder head. Took it to a mechanic only to find out that it was not a cracked cylinder head but a warped engine blocked after only 130k miles and 6 years. Car has been in shop for nearly two weeks while we try to decide what we need to do.”
NHTSA complaint #11267760, filed 2019-10, 130,000 miles“Continued problems with engine coolant. A couple of years ago I had a couple of recalls for the engine coolant sensor faulting and leaving my family. Stranded in subzero temperatures. The car was serviced for these and now is leaking coolant I to the engine through a faulty head gasket issue filling my oil with coolant and making the car overheat. The car has 106,000 miles on it and is serviced regularly.”
