“While driving on the highway about 50mph the gear button for shifter came off. Luckily it landed in the cup holder otherwise, I would not be able to put into park once stopped as it would have been still be in drive. I was able to temporarily put it back in place so that I could put into park. Very scary and dangerous while driving home on the highway.”

NHTSA complaint #11373808, filed 2020-11, 43,409 miles

“Shift knob button broke off while placing the car in drive from park - now I am unable to shift car to park or any other gear. This car only has 19k miles on it and a year and a 1/2 old. There are many reports of this same problem on the internet and on youtube - I have never in all of my years driving had a similar issue with a shift button.”

NHTSA complaint #11229928, filed 2019-07, 19,000 miles

“The plastic shift knob button popped out of the shifter handle while the car was running and in gear. I could not stop the engine or shift gears. Fortunately, I was able to locate the plastic button from the floor of the car with my left hand and insert it loosley into the shifter handle and then put the car into park and turn the engine off.”

NHTSA complaint #11163983, filed 2018-12, 2,075 miles

“While driving down the hwy at 65 MPH the button in the gear shift popped out. It is a piece of plastic and it broke inside the gear handle. I drove home but without this button inserted I am not able to shift to park, reverse, drive. I took it to the westhills Honda dealer for repair. I was told there was a recall on this same issue but not for this VIN. To me this is a very serious concern.”

NHTSA complaint #11300518, filed 2020-01, 43,128 miles

“The transmission shifter interlock release button broke (Honda part no. 54132-tla-a62zb) thereby making the transmission shifter inoperable including the ability to place the transmission in park position. All I did was to try to place the transmission in park and, when I depressed the release button on the stalk, it fell abart. I was not able to operate the vehicle at that point.”
