Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Driving on a 3 lane city road in the left most lane at 50 miles an hour when I heard a snap. Then immediately the steering pulled hard to the left. I fought it back to the right while braking. Eventually the car came to a stop. I got out of the car and saw that the front left tire was flipped 90 degrees to the left and what appeared to be the axel laying on the ground. After further investigation it was found that the ball joint had broken apart from the rest of the drive assembly and ripped out the axel. The vehicle is an all wheel drive and had 50,000 miles. …”

“Vehicle is extremely shaky and hard to handle. Also sometimes the advanced traction control warning light comes on in the anti-lock brakes engage while breaking normal lee”

“The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed failures with the front axile and both front struts. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 177,000.”

NHTSA complaint #11606891, filed 2024-08, 177,000 miles

“Unknown but the issue is that the vehicle is all over the road swaying back and forth. The steering is super loose. In other models of the same year it was found to be the toe linkage. Also the cross traffic sensor goes off when nothing is even close causing me to slam on brakes thinking something is back there.”

NHTSA complaint #11502038, filed 2023-01

“The contact owns a 2013 Ford EDGE. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14s393000 (suspension). The dealer performed the recall repair, but the vehicle shook, vibrated, and was extremely difficult to steer afterwards. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 37,116.”
