Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Transmission assembly lost ability to operate in reverse. This happened while attempting to reverse in a public area. I had enough turn radius to get around an obstruction and drive home. While driving home, the vehicle shuttered under acceleration. There were intermittent delays in acceleration also. The vehicle would not reverse out of driveway the next day. Reverse camera engaged, but no movement. The vehicle the illuminated a message of “SHIFT SYS FAULT. Service Required”. I had the vehicle towed to a repair facility for inspection. …”

NHTSA complaint #11612696, filed 2024-09, 123,000 miles

“Engine cut off while driving at highway speed in heavy dallas traffic. Required coming to complete stop to restart vehicle after crossing three lanes to reach shoulder of interstate. Dangerous. Daylight, mid day, clear weather conditions, had been driving 1.5 hours; mileage only 1,600. Dealer service dept ran computer diagnostics and no codes showed the problem. (numerous online forums have complained about this problem since back in 2005....very dangerous)”

NHTSA complaint #11398061, filed 2021-02, 1,600 miles

“Power Train has failed multiple times on this vehicle. It loses power on the highway, reverses when in drive, and does not shift down to make the vehicle slow to a safe speed. This puts me and others in danger because you can not predict that or when there will be a failure that hits a person or other car. This has been taken to a mechanic and confirmed as power train failure in a 4 year old, 100K mile car. Ford claims no recalls even though the same recall exists for other makes and models of the same kind with different VINS. Has thrown multiple codes.”

NHTSA complaint #11622182, filed 2024-10, 112,590 miles

“Loss of power while driving in rush hour traffic. Couldn't maintain 40mph. Had to pull into parking lot and start walking before loss of power was driving 40 MPH on city street in 60 degree weather”

NHTSA complaint #11361895, filed 2020-09, 738 miles

“At low speeds 20-40 car shifts with a shudder. TSB 21-2389 was issued by Ford which describes problem I am experiencing. Took car to Ford and paid them to complete procedure per TSB. This did not correct problem and after reviewing other Ford Owners it appears or I expect my Torque Converter and/or transmission has gone bad.”
