Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The passenger side headrest popped forward about 4 in while my car was parked in front of my apartment. The plastic pieces holding the steel pin are broken, so it is unrepairable without replacing the entire headrest. I'm very thankful this did not occur while I was driving, but concerns me that it could happen on the driver's side while I am driving.”

NHTSA complaint #11339886, filed 2020-07, 35,150 miles

“I was sitting in my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, parked and not moving. While sitting here waiting on an appointment, I was stretching and my elbow tapped the front of the head rest, the head rest popped forward. I had the same issue happen with the passenger head rest a little over a year ago when it popped without anyone sitting in the seat.”

NHTSA complaint #11360607, filed 2020-09, 129,000 miles

“While driving on a public roadway at approximately 15 MPH and turning into a fueling station, I was struck in the back of the head by the driver seat headrest propulsion system. The headrest is now in a deployed position. I am unable to collapse it back. It caused me to have to stop operating the vehicle at a fuel station for safety.”

NHTSA complaint #11297213, filed 2020-01, 73,960 miles

“While my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee was parked in my driveway overnight, the driver's seat headrest deployed. There was no incident during the night that would've caused the headrest to deploy, it simply deployed for no reason. This seems like a safety concern to me, since it could have happened while someone was in the driver's seat.”

NHTSA complaint #11339404, filed 2020-07, 70,000 miles

“On 10/1/2019 while driving home from work in my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo, the passenger seat headrest deployed for no known reason. This was on a 2 lane highway with traffic moving up to 55 MPH. It sounded like a shotgun blast. Fortunately my wife or older kids weren't in the seat at the time because they could have been seriously injured.”

NHTSA complaint #11265553, filed 2019-10, 95,000 miles
