“Sunny day, dry road. At the stop I heard a loud 'toc' sound rear right side. Felt like the rear of the car had slid. I made my right turn and accelerated on road when the car started swaying left and right, I could not keep the car on the road and ended up on the left lane (55m/hr road). Managed to slow down and stop in parking lot. Mechanic said extreme corrosion of frame caused separation of the axle to the right side torque. Axle moved rearwardly to lean against the wing.”
NHTSA complaint #10495347, filed 2013-01, 52,000 miles“My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee front driver seat track has broke and been repaired and broke 3 times now in a year. It started out as little wobble like bolt loose, which is what I thought it was. My mechanic pulled the seat out and found the crack and broken metal. Took it to and certified welder and had it welded. He told my the metal was cheap and that he has welded 3 others with the same issue. The last time he welded it for me he added some metal which lasted 6 months before breaking in another spot. …”
NHTSA complaint #10297098, filed 2009-12, 78,000 miles“I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited and this is the second that I have worked on and I have noticed that the license plate lights wiring harness seem to melt on the bulbs and I think over time this could become a big risk over time. The harness is very hard to replace and I don't think many people would notice cause of the location. I have been burned by the hot rubber type plastic. This is the third time I have had to replace the lights over the years and every time it just gets worst. Once on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo the light hosing was burned.”
NHTSA complaint #10234889, filed 2008-07, 90,000 miles“While driving at speeds around 48 to 51 MPH, you can feel the steering wheel start shaking sometimes if you take your foot off the gas petal it will stop but more than not it will go into a violent shake to where one can hardly hang onto the steering wheel. You have to try and get safely to shoulder and stop. Then you can drive away but when speeding up to merge back into traffic it does it again. When you just cant take it anymore you exit the freeway just to drive the city streets to where you get the small like shaking in the steering wheel. …”
NHTSA complaint #10758504, filed 2015-08, 116,000 miles“The hydraulics don't hold the hood up in the open position. Hood came down on the consumer, but they were able to catch it before any injuries were sustained. Dealership serviced the hood, but problem recurred. The consumer stated that the hood still falls down. Hydraulic arms do not hold and three is no safety arm substitute.”
